Description
Villa Rosina is an old, Tuscan country-style residence at the foot of Pienza that was recently restored into a beautiful six bedroom villa with ensuite bathrooms. The villa is arranged into three independent apartments. Great care was taken by the owners and the architect to retain the atmosphere of the Tuscan country house: Windows out of alignment, walls of random stone work, hand painted tiles, old oak wood floors upstairs and handmade bricks laid in herringbone manner on the ground floor -generally resembling the wild and unspoiled impression of the surrounding landscape. Of course, the villa has all modern amenities to guarantee a relaxed and pleasant vacation: Air conditioning in all rooms, central heating, screen windows, high-speed Wi-Fi Internet, as well as fully equipped kitchens.
The pool is long and narrow (4 x 18 m), enclosed by travertine marble and the adjoining banks are planted with agapanthus, lavender and white roses. As of 2017 the pool will be heated upon request.
Apartment "A"
GROUND FLOOR: The entrance leads to a roomy living room that has a large fireplace and very comfortable couches. From every part of the warm and romantic living/dining room is a breathtaking view of the gently rolling hills around Pienza. Also available for guests' enjoyment is a book case filled with books, a stereo/CD system, and a Satellite TV with DVD player. The ancient Tuscan “cotto” imbues the living area with a very warm atmosphere. There is an access to a little comfortable kitchen convenient for getting snacks. Next to this living room (with a separate entrance from the outside) is the staff’s double bedroom with a baldachin bed composed from very ancient laces with an ensuite bathroom with an antique wash basin and big washing machine.
FIRST FLOOR: A warm colored (peach) double bedroom with an ancient king size bed. In the corner of this bedroom you find behind a handmade wooden “separé” with tissu of silk a huge round 170x170 Villeroy Boch tub with hydromassage. This double room has also a private bathroom with a shower. On the first floor there is a sky blue colored double bedroom with a romantic moschito with ensuite bath, which has a double shower and double wash basins. Between these two rooms there is an elegant room with a round little table and two armchairs from the 18th century. Doors open onto a south facing little charming terrace from which you can enjoy the spectacular view of the Monte Amiata, the magic scenery of the Val d’Orcia with shifting lights, and a good glass of local wine.
Apartment "B"
GROUND FLOOR: Large wooden arched glass doors forge the main entrance into a large loft with queen truss (tipica capriata antica). Romantic round stairs in “ghisa” by Fonderie Viterbesi leads to the mezzanine where there is a French bed. The large antique wood dining table of ancient monarchs fits 12 comfortably and is a lovely area for lunch or dinner when it is hot outside or when it is raining. The Tuscan-style kitchen has all modern amenities (four-burner gas stove, oven, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave) and is suitable for any level of cooking. A charming double bedroom, in warm beige tones with an antique iron bed and a particular cupboard, is comfortable and inviting. Two large windows face south. The bedroom has a private bath with a hydromassage bathtub.
Apartment "C"
GROUND FLOOR: From an arched door you enter into a Tuscan kitchen with white and sky hand-made tiles, a cozy living room with a fireplace and comfortable couches. A hand-crafted white, wood door separates the living room from a charming double bedroom with its own bathroom. The pink hued bathroom has a large shower.
FIRST FLOOR: Ancient Tuscan wood characterizes this floor, which consists of a lillac-colored double bedroom with a special baldachin on the king-size bed, and a charming yellow-orange colored bathroom with hydromassage bath and shower. From the windows is a spectacular view looking over the rolling hills, fields of wheat, and small hill towns.
Included in the rental price: Welcome basket, final cleaning, maid service (cleaning and linen change) mid-week, pool and garden maintenance three times weekly
Services upon request at additional cost: Massages (Shiatsu or Ayurveda) can be arranged at the villa or in the garden, wine tasting in various wineries in Montalcino or Montepulciano, cheese tasting (Pecorino) in Pienza, private chef, extra maid service

ReviewsDM, New YorkOver the past four years, I have had the opportunity to spend holidays of a week or more at these lovely two villas in the most beautiful section of the Tuscan countryside, between the ancient village of Bagno Vignoni and the renaissance town of Pienza. The nearby fields and hills were used in breathtaking scenes from “Gladiator” and “The English Patient”.
These ‘casali’ have been completely and tastefully restored by two wonderful sisters, Barbara and Serena. The villas are spectacular, with tremendous attention to detail, both practical and esthetic, that make one feel as if they were put together especially for them. The villas are divided into separate apartments that allow for any degree of privacy that is required, yet still have common areas large enough to accommodate everyone in a family or group of friends for meals and together time, both indoors and outdoors, whether preparing a meal or sharing a glass of wine while the sun goes down in the distance behind the wide expanse of sunflowers or poppies. Each has a swimming pool that allows a spacious, cool place to relax or exercise after a grueling day of wine tastings at nearby vineyards and sampling Tuscan specialties at family operated osterias. (The pool at the larger even has a private entrance from a bedroom onto the indoor section of the swimming pool!)
The villas have been furnished with antiques and new pieces that blend together seamlessly to provide an understated elegance and comfort that still holds a sense of rustic Italian style with a hint of post-modernism. The Tuscans, at their core, are country people, farmers, and it was so nice to move into a beautiful and unique space that is true to the local tradition and not like it was furnished with Eastern European “new money”. Barbara and Serena epitomize that innate sense of style that Italians are famous for, and their homes look like scenes from a book entitled, “Tuscan Style” that makes NY Hamptons-style look a little ‘trailer park’. They exhibit a design ‘sprezzatura’ that is hard to find in other places.
The beds are great, the linens are perfect, the bathrooms comfortable and spacious. The kitchen and laundry facilities are complete, clean and up-to-date. Wifi that works, isolation but proximity to great towns, and the main road to larger places of interest.
I would whole-heartedly recommend these properties!
BW, USAYoga and photography retreat from Wisconsin USA celebrated 54th birthday here. Unforgettable beauty, great food, new friends!
BL, USAFantastic week that we all had! Barbara the owner was so helpful! Pienza was just up the road where we had some lovely food, and the taxi service we used was the best!
