Tips for Traveling and Renting in Provence - Southern France
Throughout history Provence has captured the hearts of visitors with its unending sunshine and blue skies, its rich soil that produces some of the finest fruits and vegetables in Europe, and its relaxed lifestyle that could make you want to stay a lifetime. Our wonderful property rentals reach from Avignon to Aix en Provence, St. Remy, and Apt. From these places you’ll be able to explore all the charm that this region has to offer. Visitors will taste Provence through its olive oil, garlic, wines such as Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas, and perfumed herbs.
Provence is a beautiful region of farms and villages set in the mild climate of southern France. The area is famous for its Provencal cuisine, its markets and the medieval hill villages, which perch atop many of the low rocky hills.
Provence offers an unusual blend of rustic stone farmhouses and elegant villas of wealthy Parisians. There are small quiet villages and some, like St. Remy de Provence, which offer sophisticated shopping to an international clientele. Bigger towns like Aix-en-Provence, Avignon or Arles offer a tremendous wealth of historical buildings and extraordinary art.
The Provence region generally includes both the Luberon, the mountains just to the north of central Provence, and the Var, a separate administrative district just to the east of central Provence. The mountains of the Luberon are not high, but they take you on a journey rich in sweeping views and marvellous scents. The winding roads run through fields of lavender and olive groves, and lead to isolated medieval villages whose history and culture date back many centuries.
Houses - There are a number of single family houses which are available for rent in Provence. These are typically three or four bedroom properties which are built in stone in the Provencal style. They are typically located in a village or small town and are perfect for a group who do not need a high level of luxury but want comfortable accommodations. Many of these properties have their own pool.
Villas - Country villas are usually the second houses of wealthy Parisians and foreigners who visit the countryside only occasionally. These properties can be very large. Many of these villas have pools and tennis courts. The quality level and furnishings of these properties is generally quite high.
