Tips for Traveling and Renting in Venice - Veneto
Truly a jewel among the cities of the world, Venice is unique with its canals, its magnificent buildings and the quality of its art. At the hub of the medieval world Venice acquired for itself the best of the cultures of the East and of the West.
The city is a maze of narrow alleyways and passages, leading to small arched bridges over the intertwined canals. At the heart of the city is the Grand Canal, which winds its way through the city and is crossed in only three places.
Other Points To Consider
Space - Space is at a premium in Venice so houses are rare and apartments common. Frequently, apartments are small. Views are very limited, as the buildings are close to each other.
Cars - Cars are not allowed in Venice, so if you have a rental car you will have to leave it in one of the large parking garages at the end of the causeway from the mainland.
Luggage - Since cars are not allowed in the city all luggage must be hand carried from the car park or train station. There are water-taxis which will get you fairly close to most places in the city, however, you will still be carrying your bags. We suggest you pack lightly when visiting Venice.
Washcloths - In Italy the bath towels and toiletries that are furnished with a rental do not include washcloths, soaps or shampoos, so plan to bring your own.
