Chateau Aquila is an exceptional 19th century property, built in the "Haussmann" style and completely renovated by the current owners. This Burgundy Chateau rental is situated amongst vineyards and offers a stunning panoramic view over the surrounding countryside. Its landscaped garden covers almost an acre and includes a large, heated pool (open April 1 - October 31), a summer house (with kitchen and barbecue), and plenty of outdoor furnishings for dining al fresco or enjoying the sunshine. Features of the Château include eight luxury bedrooms (two of which are VIP rooms) each with its own private ensuite bathroom, a spacious lounge decorated with a 19th century panoramic frescoes, a dining room with seating for 16 guests, fully-equipped kitchen, winter garden, gym and relaxation room, and sauna.
A courtyard closed by a remote controlled gate allows four to five cars to park in front of the Château. Behind the Château the terraced garden looks across to the pool area and the vineyards beyond. A stone stairway, hidden amongst fig trees, gives access to the bottom of the garden with its dwarf fruit trees and borders of wild lavender.
The "Haussmann" design imparts the Château with an unusual style for the area. The façade is richly decorated with moldings and sculptures, and the central round tower, which serves as a winter garden, adds a romantic touch. All the original features have been conserved in the lounge, dining room and bedrooms, including the wooden floors, the molded ceilings and wood paneling, as well as the fireplaces, doors and windows.
Guests are sure to appreciate the spacious leisure area in the basement with its gym, sauna and relaxation area.
The charming village of Mercurey is two kilometers away, offering all essential services and amenities. The town is the perfect starting point for visiting the famous Burgundian wine route.
Included in the rental price: Heating, electricity, utilities, firewood, Internet connection, final cleaning, charcoal for BBQ, once-a-week handyman service (to tend to gardens, clean pool, general maintenance), pool heating, four bicycles
Services available upon request (at additional cost): Chef service, extra maid service, babysitting, bike rental, wine tours, cooking classes, continental breakfast
The living room of Chateau Aquila reflects the history that surrounds this property. Spectacular 19th century, hand-painted frescoes cover all four walls of the room and are interpretations on the theme "Eden". The fireplace is also original, but has been upgraded to a gas fireplace for easier lighting. The central tower has been converted into a "winter garden" and, just next to the lounge, it serves as a doorway out to the garden and the pool. (This is the smokers area as smoking is prohibited in the rest of the Château.) This room is extremely light and airy, with large windows opening out onto the parkland. The molded ceilings, wood paneling and oak floors are original and add to the Chateau's historical authenticity. There is a library with all the books at the guest's disposal. An English style pool table, a big screen high definition TV with Satellite channels, a Blu-ray DVD player plus a Playstation 3 will ensure evenings full of entertainment. The lounge area can be adapted slightly to accommodate meetings and seminars.
The elegant dining room has seating for up to 16 guests. As in the lounge, the large windows serve to create a light and airy dining room, highlighting the beautiful molded ceiling, the original wood paneling and the gleaming, old oak floor.
The Château galley kitchen is fully-equipped and includes an oven, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, coffee maker, toaster and electric kettle. A full range of kitchen equipment, utensils and accessories are provided, as well as tea towels, an assortment of herbs, spices and condiments, and dishwasher products. Also available are two high chairs.
The Château Aquila has eight double bedrooms (of which two are VIP rooms); three on the first floor and five on the second floor. All are equipped with en 375suite bathrooms with either a bathtub or shower. Two cots are available in the Château. The VIP suites offer views out across the park and vineyards, a balcony, high definition TV, Blu-ray DVD player, double washbasins, hairdryers, and a bath with massage jets.
The owners have made available a wide variety of activities, sure to appeal to all ages. The property includes a heated swimming pool and pool area, a nicely-equipped gym (with two exercise bikes, a rowing machine, a weight machine, free weights, mats, and a wall-mounted TV screen with Playstation 3), a spacious steam bath and sauna, a plethora of board games, a high definition giant screen for movie night, wireless Internet access, four bicycles with two child seats, Boules, table tennis (in the garden) with rackets and balls, and a billiards table.
From Chalon-sur-Saône to Charnay-les-Macon tens of kilometers of old railway track have been converted into a cycle track. Surrounded by rolling landscapes, alternating between vineyards and forest, this flat (or almost!) Green Way, lends itself perfectly to cycling or rollerblading or simply walking. The track goes through several attractive villages and you can also admire sites such as Cluny and Cormatin from it. Four bicycles are at your disposal in the Chateau, but you can also have more bicycles delivered through a local rental company.

What a wonderful week we have had here at Château. Magnificient weather, enjoyed sampling the amazing Bourgogne wines and fabulous produce. We have enjoyed the pool, petanque, table tennis & billiards and have had the most amazing summer holiday. We will miss the birds of France and can't wait to return again soon !

Wine tasting, hiking up to see the statue of Mary, eating delicious food, swimming in the pool, playing billiards, playing bocce ball, riding the bikes, exercising in the weight room, visiting Beaune, shopping and touring La Moutarderie Fallot, visiting le Meix Foulot vineyard, touring the countryside. All in all a lovely and memorable week. Thank you

Words simply can't express how much we enjoyed our week at your beautiful chateau. We are a family who came together to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. She is an amazing woman and this was the perfect environment to raise a glass (several glasses, actually !) in her honor.
We've made so many memories, had great laughs, told stories, shared meals and just had a magnificent time together.
Thank you for creating such a special home and for opening it up to others.

We had a fantastic time at THE Chateau. The pool, petanque, table tennis and trampoline were all used extensively. The house itself was fabulous and was a great base to explore Burgundy. I really appreciated to opportunity to see your cellar and taste some of your wines, it was really a unique experience and a highlight for me.

Our family of 13 plus 3 babies have had the most amazing holiday in your house. We wanted to say thank you for providing us with a wonderful holiday. It's a two week period that none of us will ever forget :-).
We have created so many memories and shared so much fun. Thank you for welcoming us in your beautiful home. Best wishes.

Thank you for a wonderful week in this unique and splendid Château. It is definitely a superb combination of the ultra-comfortable (and beautiful design) with the typical ambience of rural Burgundy. In this magnificent place, everything you need, you have. A long lasting memory, and a good lesson for life in the "art de vivre". Au revoir et merci beaucoup.
