  • Description

Château Perigord sits grandly on a hill overlooking the farmlands, forests, and century-old nut trees below. This beautiful castle is located in the Dordogne area of France and is nearby the famous Château de Hautefort in the Périgord Noir. Built upon ruins dating back to the 15th century, the chateau has been completely renovated and updated in 2011. The owners took great care in maintaining the integrity of the chateau, highlighting its authentic elements such as century-old oak wooden floors, chimneys with majestic mirrors, fine handcrafted moulures and woodwork. At the same time, no effort was spared to seamlessly integrate all modern comforts such as large bedrooms with elegant en-suite bathrooms, a media room with flatscreen Satellite TV and DVD/CD player, a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen, and Wi-Fi.

A day in Château Perigord might begin with breakfast on the terrace overlooking the scenic valley, where soft breezes mingle with the heady scent of the local flora. A hot, summer day might find you reading in your hammock, enjoying the fully fenced park with rare, century-old trees. The swimming pool offers a well-deserved break from the heat. In the evening you can enjoy the culinary gems of this region (such as truffles, duck, foie gras, mushrooms, and fine wine), purchased in one of the many charming local markets. Suffice to say, if you are in search of a special luxurious holiday rental for your family or a group of friends, then Chateau Perigord is a must-see! Weddings are welcome as are company retreats or conferences.

The ground level harbors the petite and grande living rooms, the cozy "fumerie" or reading lounge, the impressive dining room with spectacular views on the terrace and surroundings, the media room (with flatscreen Satellite TV, DVD/CD player and Internet connection), and gourmet kitchen, equipped with a state-of-the-art industrial island.

On the first floor are six double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and views out over the property and countryside. Some have walk-in dressing rooms and two offer fireplaces. On the second floor are the two charming, double tower rooms, each with en-suite bathroom and fantastic centuries-old wooden beams.

In the tower are the 7th and 8th bedrooms.
Both are full of charm and have fantastic century-old wooden beams and en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet.

NOTE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO RENT THE CHATEAU + THE NEWLY RENOVATED WING FOR UP TO 24 ADULTS. PLEASE INQUIRE ABOUT PRICE.

PLEASE NOTE: 4 hours of daily maid service and maintenance of garden and pool as well as concierge service are included.

Château Perigord is centrally located in the Dordogne and makes side trips to local attractions easy. The chateau is only 10 minutes away from the magnificent Château de Hautefort, the largest and most prestigious castle in the Périgord Noir. In half an hour you can visit the valley of the Vézère, classified since 1979 as UNESCO world heritage. In Lascaux you can visit the famous prehistoric wall paintings. In 45 minutes you can find yourself in one of the intriguing medieval cities of the Dordogne, including Sarlat-La-Caneda (founded in the 9th century) with its beautifully renovated center, cozy streets, terraces, and markets. Others within reach include Domme, St-Jean-de-Cole (with its lovely waterfalls and Chateau), Sorges, Brantome (with it majestic abbey near the water), Thiviers, and Colonges la Rouge.

My parents treated the whole family (15 of us) to a week in this stunning Chateau. The place itself is amazing - very spacious, well equipped and finished in exquisite detail. Every room is large and airy with a luxurious en-suite. The pool area and grounds are relaxing, elegant and private. The locality is perfect for enjoying the very best of the perigueux region. It's wine, food, chateaus and rivers. Anita and Peter make you so welcome in an entirely unobtrusive way. Booking restaurants and getting the best tables, advising on cycle routes, canoeing trips, local delicacies and so much more. The Chateau is large enough to allow people the space they need as well as the opportunity to come together. Perfect for our family break.

We stayed at the Chateau with our extended family for a week. The house is spacious, with rooms to spare, and surrounded by a large garden. There are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside waiting to be discovered wherever you walk in the garden. The owners decorated the chateau in a pleasing minimalist style, which is what you want in a vacation home. Although located in the countryside (and you should really go for a walk, or bike ride: it is wonderful), there is lots to visit a short drive away: the old towns of Hautefort, Perigueux, Sarlat-La-Caneda or Dom, the castles/gardens of Hautefort, Eyrignac, Marqueyssac or Castelnaud, or natural wonders as the Gouffre de Padirac.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Chateau in July 2014 as part of a large group of friends (15) who got together from all over the world for a reunion. The property is wonderful: beautifully restored, with all modern comforts, exceptionally well run, in an idyllic setting in the heart of the Perigord noir (stunning countryside!) I can only echo what has already been said by other reviewers. This is indeed a small piece of heaven on earth. 1) the owners of the chateau are truly wonderful people: we appreciated their warm welcome, and all their help in helping us settle in. They made us immediately feel at home. They were available at any time, and went out of their way to assist us with all we needed: from recommending and booking the best restaurants in the region, to organizing a private chef and staff to cook for us in the chateau one night, to helping us organizing wine tasting tours in the Bordeaux region, to advising us on little villages to visit, etc.... Nonetheless, it should be noted that they are extremely discreet, and that you will have full privacy. (They live in a side building of the property, and you will only see them whenever you want to) 2) the kitchen is wonderful: it is professional grade and has all it needs to allow large groups to cook /cater for themselves. This was very important for us, and we were able to cook some memorable dinners..... 3)the chateau is big enough to never feel crowded, even with a group of 16. If someone wants a bit of downtime from the rest of the group, there are always spaces were one could retreat to read, enjoy music, etc. The bedrooms are also very big and comfortable, all with en-suite bathrooms --- and provide all modern comforts (incl. strong water pressure, heat, etc...) 4) there are loads of things to do near the chateau: beautiful cities and villages to visit (perigeaux, haute fort, terrasson, sarlat, montignac, etc..), great food and restaurants, wine (Bergerac, bordeaux, etc..), nature / sports, grottos, etc... You won't get bored. All in all a memorable stay, and great value for the money... we sure will be back!!

Our family spent a week at this chateau. The place is just perfect: a castle combining the charm of the past with the comfort of today (perfectly equipped kitchen, great bathrooms, wifi, ...). The owners paid a lot of attention to the renovation of the castle and avoided the predictable baroque-like decoration. The moment you look outside or take a walk in the park that surounds the castle, you fall in love with the nature. The domain lies on the top of a hill giving amazing views of the area. And the kids ... they loved the pool !
