Chateau Figeac

Château Figeac is an exclusive private castle, romantically set in southern France, two hours from Toulouse and less than six hours from Paris.

High on its hill and set in stunning gardens and parkland, this 12th century fortress, one of the most beautiful and historically important castles in the region, has panoramic views of the Célé valley. The atmosphere is peaceful and ideal for relaxation, short getaways or longer breaks.

The whole property is available fully-staffed and catered for castle holidays, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or other celebrations, as well as corporate special events, concerts, exhibitions, presentations, meetings and seminars for up to 100 people. The castle sleeps up to 17 and additional accommodation for a further 25 is available in three nearby holiday cottages. The cottages are also available for self-catering holidays.

The Lot is one of the few remaining unspoilt regions of France, with vast areas of primeval oak forest, tranquil river valleys and ancient towns. The attractive medieval town of Figeac is only 10 minutes away, with its traditional open markets and well-preserved architecture.

From the driveway and park, a great door forms the entrance to the Château Figeac. The location of the original drawbridge mechanism is clearly visible. From the main door you enter the Courtyard with its stunning views across the valley. On the left are the original Keep and the remains of the chapel, part of which is now an upper terrace reached by a wide stone staircase. On the right is the main part of the building, with separate entrances to La Salle Voutée and La Salle des Etats.
There is a special Christmas/New Year's special for 10 days. This is for a total of 26 guests. Special, festive meals and activities are included in this rental. Please inquire for more details!

With minor exceptions, guests are welcome to use any of the rooms in the Château. The Château is first and foremost a luxury family home and furnished accordingly, mainly with French antiques.

Guests will enjoy the majestic living areas with all of their charm. Like stepping back in time, you will never tire of Chateau Figeac's charm! The bedrooms are as follows:

1. Queen en suite with terrace and extra room where there is an extra single bed.
2. Queen en suite with sitting room. This room has WIFI connection.
3. Two twin beds with an en suite bathroom. There is also a sitting area with desk.
4. Single en suite with WIFI (due to antique bed, not suitable for guests over 5'8'') + adjoining room that can be a single bedroom. Also has WIFI. These two rooms share a full bath.
5. 2 Twin beds with sitting area and desk + bedroom with large single bed.
6. 2 Twin beds with en suite bathroom which overlooks the park. Bathroom shared with room 7.
7. 2 Twin beds with a view of the garden. Shares shower with room 6.
8. Located on the ground floor. Single with en suite bathroom and sitting room with WIFI.
Of course the Chateau grounds are beautiful and guests have exclusive use of the pool with changing room and showers.

Figeac is a 9th century river town, unspoilt by tourism, with about 10,000 residents. It is famous as the birthplace of Jean François Champollion (1790-1832), who deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics by solving the puzzle of the Rosetta stone. There is an excellent museum named after him, with an oversized replica of the Rosetta stone in its courtyard.

The town has preserved many old stone buildings and narrow streets dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, including a Commandery of the Knights Templars and the 13th century Hôtel de la Monnaie, now housing a local history museum and the helpful tourist office that provides a wealth of information on the town and upcoming events.

The open-air markets offer a wide and tempting range of local produce, such as the Cabecou miniature goat cheeses. When footsore, you will find a warm welcome in one of the many bars and cafés.
