  • Description

Built on top of a softly rolling hill a long time ago, Villa Orangerie is a beautiful country home and is typical of the Aix-en-Provence countryside architecture. The home is set amidst almost five acres of enclosed terraced gardens; an abundance of greenery! Through friendly and caring hands, the home has been completely renovated, regaining its former liveliness and warmth. Under the watchful and protective gaze of centuries-old cypresses, family and friends will spend some blissful time in surroundings both elegant and comfortable.

The outdoor lounge area sits under a wrought iron pergola sheltered by "canisses" (typical local reed covering for sun protection). The elegant outdoor dining area sits in an alcove situated between the house and the Orangerie. It is protected from the Mistral wind by a beautiful glass door with elaborate metalwork in antiqued rust finish, close to the main house entrance. The home is very child friendly offering a games room with table tennis and bar-football. There are a large number of games available for use by the guests.

The large, chlorinated pool is accessed via steps and includes an electronic alarm for safety. A wrought iron canopy and painted wooden sculpture are situated close to the pool.

The mythical town of Aix-en-Provence is not very far away and will delight you with all its possibilities. This vibrant town appeals to all ages; offering culture, history, and plenty of night life.

Included in the rental price: Water, electricity, garden and pool maintenance, and concierge service.

The ground floor of Villa Orangerie has an elegant entrance hall pleasantly furnished with a majestic stone staircase and a sumptuous and elaborate wrought iron banister swirling towards the top two floors. There is a cloakroom and guest toilet. From the entrance you can reach the very comfortable family room with two sofas and a TV, the kitchen, and laundry room (which is also a pantry with the boiler and the washing machine. Dryer available on request). The well-equipped kitchen, decorated in a "country chic" motif, occupies a long space and opens onto the terrace. There is a large wood and metal table, a Sauter gas stove, a fireplace with BBQ, two ovens (one of them electric), microwave oven, Bosch dishwasher, beige marble twin bowl sink, electric coffee maker, and a Nespresso machine with capsules (available for purchase). The living quarters unfold in succession from the kitchen: there is a small office adjacent to the TV room, a spacious lounge with a fireplace decorated in pleasantly harmonious colors with restrained and elegant contemporary furniture in light tones, and a dining room that can accommodate numerous guests. From here there is access out to the West side of the house and the vineyards.
These common rooms are open plan; airy and wonderfully light, but above all comfortable and welcoming. They all open out through French door onto the front of the house onto a large graveled terrace decorated with plants and facing south. On either side of the terrace, deck chairs have been arranged under giant Micocouliers trees (Hackberry tree), creating a delightful outdoor sitting area. At the far end of this terrace, you can access the pool and the large, grassy area.

A prettily decorated and furnished landing marks the entrance to the first floor. Opposite are separate toilets. On the left hand side is a double bedroom with queen bed (twin beds linked together) decorated with a faded pink “Toile de Jouy” style bedspread. This room has three windows offering views overlooking the terrace and the long drive bordered by cypresses. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower and hand basins. In the center of the first floor is another double bedroom with queen bed (twin beds linked together) covered in flowery red on a beige background “boutis”, red curtains, two windows overlooking the terrace to the south and en-suite bathroom with a bath. At the end of the corridor and a little out of the way from the rest of the house, passed a lovely red Kilim rug laid on the bare stones and slatted cupboard doors, is the Master bedroom. This room offers a queen bed (twin beds linked together)covered with a striped aqua green bedspread. The en-suite bathroom has a Provençale shower, twin hand basins and toilet. This is a romantic and lovely room, with decorations in tones of pastel blue, stucco finished walls and French style period decoration on the ceiling. The grey and white bathroom is spacious and very comfortable. The refined furniture lends the room and sense of harmony and serenity.

The second floor of the villa provides a large TV room for the children with a window opening out onto the side of the house. The room is furnished with two simple sofa beds, covered in pretty colored boutis and are perfect for use as occasional beds for children. Slightly to the right and up a few steps you get to separate toilets. On the left hand side of the corridor is a double bedroom with queen bed (twin beds linked together), and a window opening out onto the south terrace. Additional windows offer stunning views of the countryside and the Pinchinats hill. This bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom with shower, with a hand basin in a wooden cabinet. Further along in the corridor there is a large bedroom with three single beds and a hand basin that is suited for a dormitory for three children. The decoration is cheerful and bright. At the end of the corridor, reached by a few steps, there are two double bedrooms (twin beds linked together) facing each other. They both have a hand basin. These two bedrooms share a large bathroom in shades of neutral and pure white, very contemporary and stylish with high quality fittings, a large modern shaped bath, imposing antique hand basin and spacious Provençal shower unit.

From the Celto-Ligurian Oppidum of Entremont to the new Sextius-Mirabeau Quarter, with the City of Counts and the many mansions of the Mazarin Quarter, Aix-en-Provence is a living history book. Rich and alive with a heritage thousands of years old, the Capital of Provence combines elements from all times. Located about three km away from Villa Orangerie, the town is all color and sensation: the light of the sky, the golden stone of the facades, the transparent green of the fountains, the shade of the plane trees, surprises held by the festival nights...
